Students took to twitter to respond to article using the hashtag #dobetterStateNews. The hash tag represents what we feel of the State News and how they so poorly represent the black students as a minority on this campus.
Once the hashtag was implemented it only took an hour to catch the attention of the State News to make them realize what they had done was wrong. The result of this was that the online picture was taken down and a Twitter apology had been issued. The word "sorry" was not good enough nor sincere, the article and picture had been printed for thousands to see; the picture had been downloaded, screenshot, and retweeted so we feel that "sorry" could not fix the issue. Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated had been defaced because of this "mistake", the black community had been defaced because of this "mistake" and we wanted justice.
Ultimately, there needs to be a better relationship between the media and the public that it serves.
